back to my cookbook!

I've been in another world for the last month and a half i've been finishing up the Toy Story picture book. Now is done, I'm doing a few fixes and it won't come out until May 2009, a while from now, but I'm excited to have my first book published!
In the meantime I will finish up my cook book, which I'll be putting together very soon!

oh yes, this is for a wonderful Lorelay exclusive recipe of cola-cao cookies (chocolate powder cookies) I've finally perfectionate them, now I can say they're good! I've had a few testers and they give me thumbs up!

old painting

I'm still working on the toy story book, busy , busy , painting it now, its very exciting, so I haven't been able to find much time doing my own paintings
This is an older painting I did during my third year at Cal Arts for the character animation show, which it was sold sold after. I've been scanning most of my suff for records.

Totoro forest project

Here is my donation for an Auction for the Totoro Forest Project, It was fun to work on this one specially when is for a good cause.
We had to include our own take on a Totoro, so for me, on this painting I did the little girl looking in the reflection of the water,
seeing The little Totoros, and a big Totoro on the distance that looks like a hill of grass.

The legend of Loreley siren

So everyone asks me that my name it doesn't sound like is Spaniard at all, my parents wanted to give me a very different special name so special that they even changed the original Loreley to Lorelay.
Loreley is a rock in germany really! but is in a strong current river where there were many boat accidents, Also
Loreley is the name of one of the beautiful Rhine Maidens who lured navigators of this river to their dooms with their alluring singing, much as the ancient Greek Sirens did.

I was telling my friend Leo Matsuda the story and he suggested that I painted a illustration of it, so I did.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Tortilla de Patatas

I think this recepie is a must have on my cookbook. I've made this dish at my house many times, and everyone loves it, typical in every house in Spain, and easy to make except flipping it over, which it can be a disaster. But by making this dish more often it will become very easy. Its funny because the name of this dish "tortilla de patatas" means potato omelete, but here a "tortilla" is the flat mexican bread... So ...don't be confused about this dish and, enjoy!!!

A la Espanola!

I'm back! I had sooooo much going on that I hardly found time to do something for my cookbook but this is a page I'm working on, inspired by the movie "volver" and the old classic movie posters. "Cooking al la espanola"!!!

color keys

I've been quite busy lately, but here are a few colorkeys that I did for fun, and I will be posting more things next soon!

Scarlet o'hara

the last "dinner"

this is a Spaniard feast typical dinner!

I did these yesterday for fun from a really cool fashion site with amazing vintage pictures. Is kind of fun for a change to do something different than the daily routine. I also have been painting during my lunch hour, for practice some thumbnails of Disney backgrounds from the classics, I think by doing it, is going to be a really help full way to see how these amazing artists did it. Oh and now I'm official at Disney, no more trainee or apprentice, now I have ... even more pressure, but that is a great motivation!

Marisol

Just a quick painting I did in honor of The Spaniard legend "Marisol" ... she was an actress and singer since a little girl in the early 60's
she is and still is soooo talented!

la casera!

this is a delicious drink, as I remember when I used to go to the beach every summer in Spain, we would not have dinner or lunch without gaseosa la casera!

salud!

here is a get together in a typical Spanish bar, some good red wine and... Salud!

gallery DeNovo

this painting I did for my dad, to use as a thank you card to the gallery DeNovo, for having such a nice show. And in the painting I attempted to paint my dad's painting, which is one of my favorite's from the show, and is called...rotating universe.
Oh and I will be posting some more new stuff soon!

I Just have to say one thing... that I love the summer afternoon!

la playa

here is one part for the two pieces for my cookbook, for the recipe of "patatas bravas" with aioli of course, once I put the second illustration I'll explain what this amazing simple dish is.... well is just fantastic! for summer specially!

and these are for a drink in spain that I drank at the beach when I was young, it came on little glass bottles with the cacaolat font and yellow bg...memories!

lady in red

I've been keeping quiet busy during the week, but I'm working on my cookbook during the weekends specially. Here is soomething I did the other day (not for the cookbook) just for the pleasure of painting :)

plaza and bakery

One of the main inredients in Spaniard cooking is of course real... crunchy in the outside and soft in the inside BREAD! Fresh rustic bread every day from the Baker down the street.

gift

I'm spending the holiday break with my family and my aunt that came to visit us from Spain, and this is a gift for her, she loves red and fashion so hopefully she'll like it.

STEP123

And I'm slowly getting back into my cookbook, on the 15 of this month I got a formal review of my work, which will be presented by my mentor to the other directors, and we'll see how it goes, I'm not even allowed to be in the room... kind of scary.
Here is step by step on how to make bread w/ tomato, I'm thinking on illustrating a step by step for each recepie. I think it would be fun.
